I'm a writer, photographer, editor, and spoken word artist based in Seattle, WA.
Writing: I've been writing since 1975, starting out with magazine articles, newspaper articles, short stories, then moving to a few novels but mostly poetry. I have a poetry chapbook, "Solar Subjugation," that was published by Finishing Line Press and have a full length poetry manuscript (All Temple) making the rounds to publishers now. On my "Writing" page from the navigation bar, you can see writing news and some links to recent publications, as well as a published poem or two. Verbal work has appeared in Society of Classical Poets, Hawaii Pacific Review, Pedestal Magazine, Gold Man Review, december magazine, great weather for MEDIA, Gravel, Circle Show, with three poems in the anthology The Muse Strikes Back published by Story Line Press.
Spoken Word: I have always been fascinated by spoken word performances. I have done some acting and oral interpretation, as it has also been called and recently have been doing some readings on Zoom. I have started a You Tube channel (Toni La Ree Bennett Spoken Word) to read my own work plus some public domain works. Stay tuned to this website for announcements of videos being published.
Photography; I've been taking pictures since 1975 with all kinds of different cameras. I jumped on the digital bandwagon early but still do slide film. As far as training goes, I completed a one year photography certificate at the University of Washington. I've edited books on Adobe Photoshop and received Adobe ACE certification for several versions of Photoshop. I also went to Oaxaca, Mexico for a Mary Ellen Mark two-week intensive photo workshop where I took pictures of animals the whole time.
I have three Instagram accounts where you can see my published pictures (or link in navigation column), pictures of two of my specialties, surreal/abstract and toys/dolls
Visual work has appeared in Cimarron Review (cover of Winter 2018), WomenArts Quarterly (cover of Volume 8, Issue 1-2018), Nassau Review (cover of 2018 issue), Glassworks, Gravel, Grief Diaries, Memoir Magazine, Fish Food, Stickman Review, Tryst, Pierian Springs, Gin Bender Poetry Review, and Blue Fifth Review, and publication in Rappahannock Review. Some of my work has appeared in exhibitions in the Seattle area and is in private collections.
My current interests are creating collages, abstracts, and surreal images.
I also license photographs through Adobe Stock.
